On 15 February 2021, the Embassies of the Visegrad Group countries (Hungary, Czech Republic, Poland and Slovakia) held a joint press conference on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the regional organization’s foundation.

Besides the Hungarian Ambassador Béla Fazekas, the Heads of the Polish and Czech missions took part in the event (Slovakia does not have an embassy in Pakistan). At the event, which aroused the special interest of the local media, the Hungarian ambassador emphasized that the Visegrad Group was officially established 30 years ago, but the first historical meeting of the format had already taken place in 1335, based on political and economic considerations. Even after seven centuries later, these considerations are still the fundamental driving force behind the group that gives strong legitimacy to the regional organization.

Answering questions from journalists, Béla Fazekas explained that Hungary has a long-term commitment to cooperating with Pakistan, which is proven by the 200 Hungarian higher education scholarships offered to the country each year and the 20-year presence of the Hungarian multinational company MOL in Pakistan. The Hungarian Ambassador emphasized that it would be important to conclude a bilateral investment protection treaty as soon as possible in order to attract further Hungarian investments to Pakistan.
