On 21 October 2022, the Embassy of Hungary in Islamabad held National Day reception to commemorate the anniversary of the 1956 Revolution and Freedom Fight.
In his message, Ambassador Mr. Béla Fazekas reminded the guests that only the foreign aggression could subdue the freedomfight, which should be remembered specifically now, 66 years later. The Ambassador highlighted that the relations between Hungary and this part of the subcontinent have centuries long history. An excellent example to that is the Punjab University, which was founded in 1882 by the Hungarian professor, W.G. Leitner. This special relationship will be further strengthened by the decision of the Hungarian government to increase the Stipendium Hungaricum scholarships offered to Pakistan from 200 to 400 from next year. In addition to the development of cultural and educational relations, the strengthening of economic and trade cooperation is also important. We can gladly state that more and more Hungarian-Pakistani joint ventures are registered following the path of the Hungarian MOL subsidiary, which is present in the country for more than 20 years. The company, which is the second largest producer of oil is Pakistan has a particularly key position in softening the harsh consequences of the global energy crisis.
The Chief Guest of the event was Mr. Chaudhry Salik Hussain, Federal Minister for the Board of Investment of Pakistan. The Federal Minister expressed his satisfaction at the development of bilateral economic relations, and proposed to broaden the scope of cooperation in the field of agriculture and tourism still having huge untapped potentials. .
After the speeches, the official part of the reception ended with a cultural performance by two Hungarian dancers.
