On 12-13 September 2019, the Opening session of the Hungarian-Pakistani Joint Economic Committee was held in Budapest, capital of Hungary. The Pakistani delegation was led by Mr. Ahmed Hanif Orakzai, Additional Secretary of the Pakistani Ministry of Finance’s Economic Affairs Division, while the Hungarian side was represented by Mr. István Joó, Deputy State Secretary for Export Development of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

At the beginning of the meeting, Ambassador Mr. István Szabó welcomed the Pakistani delegation, and afterwards and expert talks were held between the parties. As the conclusion of the negotiations meeting, Mr. István Joó and Mr. Ahmed Hanif Orakzai signed the Protocol of the session, in which they have outlined the areas of further cooperation (agriculture and food processing, water management, Information and communications technology, higher education, etc.).

In addition to the government level talks, several business meetings were held between Pakistani and Hungarian companies about the cooperation in the agriculture and water sectors. Dr. István Grafjódi Commercial Counsellor prepared the talks, which resulted in the signing of several cooperation agreements among the companies.
