On 31 January 2021, the entrance exams for the Hungarian Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship programme took place simultaneously in several major cities of Pakistan. For the academic year 2021/2022, a record number of 9,500 students applied for the offered 200 (125 BA, 50 MA, 25 PhD) scholarship places to various higher education institutions in Hungary.

The nearly fiftyfold oversubscription is a good indication of the success of the program in Pakistan, which has been running for five years in the country and offering not only free education, but also health insurance, monthly housing allowance and cash benefit to scholarship-winning students.

The Hungarian Embassy intends to launch an Alumni organization to help the Pakistani students graduated in Hungary to stay in touch with each other once they return home, and support the cooperation between the two countries.
